On Sunday 9 June, I’ll be cycling 130 km to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis Queensland. This is the longest ride I do each year, and likely to stay that way unless I am reckless enough to sign up for a full Ironman.
I’m not at all competitive as a cyclist/triathlere, but I am very competitive as a fundraiser. Thanks to some awesome donations, particularly one from the great Ross Gittings, I’ve currently raised over $4000, and am in the top 10 individual fundraisers. If I can get to $5000, I get the special MS Champion Jersey with a silver patch.
Having a fundraising commitment is good for me, encouraging me to put in effort I might otherwise slack off on. And your contributions are doing some real good.
Although a cure for MS may be a long way off, there are good reasons for hope. Another genetic disease, cystic fibrosis, which at one time meant early and painful death is now treatable in many cases, to the point where patients may have a normal life expectancy if treatment starts early in life
In the meantime, helping people with MS and their families is a good thing to do, and to think about.
Again, here’s the link for donations
