Some good things to do
Hi everyone,
My regular newsletter will be coming soon, but I have a couple of requests/suggestions to make in the meantime, all to do with charitable and community efforts.
First, thanks to kind support from my readers, I’ve raised just over $1800 for my annual Brissie to the Bay cycle ride, supporting people with MS. So, rather than rest on my laurels (which sounds uncomfortable when you think about it), I’ve raised the target to $2500, which would qualify me as an MS Legend, entitled to a small bronze patch on my shirt[1] and also increased my distance target from 130km to 400km.
If you’re more into hiking, why not join Australia’s Biggest Bushwalk, raising money for the Australian Conservation Foundation. It started a few days ago, but runs for the whole of May, so there is plenty of time

Finally, if you would like to help efforts to monitor the spread of infectious disease, why not join Flutracker. They asked me to invite 2 other big-hearted, community-minded, friends or colleagues to join, but I figured that most of my readers are big-hearted and community minded so I’m sending it to everyone
Here’s their pitch
Thank you for being part of FluTracking. Your surveys provide crucial data for understanding illness trends. The more people who participate, the clearer the picture we get. It takes 30 seconds a week to do the survey, and they receive a weekly snapshot of illnesses in their area. https://www.flutracking.net/Join/AE/inv2024
fn1. I recall that John Maynard Keynes once wrote that, in a society without monetary incentives, people would be willing to make great efforts to secure the privilege of sticking a postage stamp on the seat of their pants. I guess he was right.
