Hi everyone
This is my report on the Runaway Noosa Marathon, for which I raised money for the Melanoma Institute. As a result of injury and bad weather, my training program was disrupted, so I couldn’t complete the full marathon. The organisers wouldn’t let me shift to the half-marathon event, so I started with the marathon competitors and pulled out after two of the four laps. Officially a DNF (Did Not Finish), but I recorded an unofficial time of 2:19. Not my fastest but a little faster than my planned pace for this event, leading up to the Sunshine Coast 70.3.
Much better than my performance was that of my generous readers and supporters who contributed $1834 to the appeal, easily passing my target of $1500. Thanks so much to all of you, and to those who couldn’t afford to make a donation at the moment, but cheered me on.
In all of these things, I’m reminded how lucky I am to have made it to the Biblical three score years and ten (next birthday) without any significant impairment to my health, as well as being in good shape financially. I know that many of my readers aren’t so lucky, and need to focus on looking after their own difficulties. But if you can help, please do.
I’m in my recovery week for now, so I won’t put out my next appeal for a little while. If you want to donate right now. the Melanoma appeal is still open.
